Nice to Meet You

I’m Andrew Benson, a software engineer who’s been at it for quite a while.

As a sentient being, Scott Adams is a disappointment at best. But he did create some really funny comics.

My first experience with computers was connecting to a university mainframe with a Texas Instruments Silent 700 (or something very similar). From there, I took the fork in the road that let me to art school, and spent a few years as a graphic designer and desktop publisher.

I dipped my toes back into programming with AppleScript—I built a pre-press app for a greeting card company that would tile PageMaker files into 4-up separations to create plates for a web press. Fun stuff for sure, I encourage anyone to try to write a program with only one (very thin) reference manual.

I once built a relational database in MS Access using one table. True story.

From there, I helped found InterVisage, a web-design agency that eventually became Brightfind. While there, I was a co-architect and product manager of a web-based CMS.

Fast-forward a “few” years, and now I’m a Software Architect at Slalom Build .

greaterthan was formed in 2018 when I began an engagement as an independent contractor. Now, it’s my outlet for sharing stuff.
